Right it needs to be said. Quit the bullshit.

General Questions- Traveling to the South Island for the Semester

Aloha everyone,

I am coming to Aotearoa to study for the semester in Dunedin, and was looking for some general advice on what to bring and how to bring it. Any help you can offer is really appreciated. I am from Honolulu, HI, but I study in Colorado. I am flying from Honolulu to Auckland to Queenstown tomorrow night. I am mostly a trad and alpine climber, but I also enjoy sport climbing. I am planning on bring a good amount of gear down with me.

The Homer Hut warden for December/January has dropped off a rack left at the hut to the NZAC Home of Mountaineering in Christchurch.

Spring Washers Aid in Bolt Self Loosening??

On most of the bolts I have placed I have used spring washers to help prevent loosening of the hanger. But recently i came accross this:

Climbers or climbing near Invercargill?

I'm a brit looking to move to NZ for a couple of years. There is a possiblity of work in Invercargill hospital, but I need to be near climbing and climbers. I've heard there are granite sea cliffs near there but can't see much evidence of development. I'd also be interested in bouldering. 

 

Also if there are climbers, who are up for for regular trips to climbing areas and car sharing etc.

 

Please let me know if this is a dead end, and I'll try for somewhere else.

When does Tramping/Hiking become Climbing?

 

Do you think the terms are based around difficulty or objectives?

 

Are Grade 1 mountains tramping or climbing? What about Grade -1? When does a tramp become a climb?
