Winter is over!
Whoohoo.
Today is the offical last day of winter. :!:
Time to come out of hibernation (because its simply too cold to climb in the north island during winter) and start climbing again. All those winter pies need burning off, too.
okay.......if you had said Queenstown, Wanaka, or Dunedin was too cold, I might have believed you, but where on the NI is it that cold.
Maybe it would help my confusion if you were to define what you consider to be 'simply too cold to climb' :?
uh oh....I think I see where this might lead to.... :P
after spending most of the year in greymouth i have come to the following conclusion,
it was never too cold to climb at charleston although it was a couple of times in chch when i was over there.
after careful analysis of the chanel 1 weather i came to the following conclusions on temps,
Auckland (my home town) is far warmer than the south island in winter
so i correlated these conclusions and came up with this conclusion regarding climbing in auckland,
it is never really cold in auckland, (i can think of many days where our high temp has been lower than aucklands low temp) so it should never be too cold to climb in auckland unless its raining in good old auckland fashion
anyway i cant wait to get home and head to the quarry and climb there again in summer
thank you, nick, my point exactly!
.....and there were only 2 weekends this winter where it was too shitty to climb outside here in chch (3, if you count about 3 weeks ago, when it was absolute crap here, but beautiful at CH)
yea one of the times it was around -4 so we decided not to climb as it was rainingthe day before and didint feel like doing mixed climbing so we just went to the y
Too cold! What utter crap. Winter is undoubtedly the best time to climb in NZ as long as it is dry.
Get hard and get out there.
On sunny days in June/June it is T-shirt weather on N-facing crags once the frost has gone.
But Southern Men are made from tougher stuff.
cold = friction duh
Good on you Mate
Actually it just our Swandri's that are tough. We try not to wash them too often.
So that is hgow you manage to get crags to yourselves !!
Yes! Theres madness to our method.
I suppose you keep goats as well?
I prefer sheep. Much better looking
i think that swanies are overrated, i think that my downie is way better than the swanie i had
dont shoot me now im not a southern man
dont shoot me now im not a southern man
It's ok, I am not either (well, not native anyway). I don't have a swany or a downy, I just don't climb if it is too much below 10 degrees.
(I am not a hard-man, just harder than Craig apparently :P )
i got a downie for hte simple reason of the fact that you geto ut of your sleeping bag and into another basically,
and its fricking cold at the local climbing gym in winter its like a freezer
dont shoot me now im not a southern man
Horses for courses Nick. Wear your downie market gardening or brick laying or on the deck of a fishing boat and see how long it lasts
anyone gonna be around wharepapa sth this weekend. i hate to think what our petrol will cost return from welly :?
but im not planing on any bricklaying in winter or being on the deck of a fishing boat or even doing any market gardening so really i have no use for a swanie, to me they are just too heavy to justify having one on my budget, i can take my downie on almost every trip and it takes up no space or weight
As I said, horses for courses.
Looking out my window right at this moment i have a feeling that winter hasn't quite forgotten about us just yet :?
yea it still reaining but its a crap load warmer now than it was a month ago, im sure even in chch you arnt getting -5 anymore, that night was fricking cold i was outside til 5 im the morning
In Dunedin it sure isn't spring yet. Sure that daffodils are out and the cherries are in blossom, but the "Indian" winter will be around till October, just in time for the scarfies to have to go inside and study. I love the irony of Dunedin weather.
Im just waiting for snow...
snow i been waiting all year but it hasnt really hapned. yea duniden is fricking cold i hear i never been there but i hate the cold
and you call yourself a climber?
winter.....over allready!!!!!!   what a shitty winter!!
yea im a climber but i dont like the cold, being from auckland and all.
you dont need to hsve gone to duniden to be a climber, if i had the coin i would have gone but i dont have any coin so i dont go
Not this winter, I've been climbing almost as much as I've been snowboarding in Wanaka.

You're joking, right...... :?:
