Winter activities

I'm going to be in New Zealand from late May to late July and was wondering where would be be the best place for bouldering and or but preferably not sport climbing. I'm also interested in doing some backpacking (tramping?) if anybody has some recommendations.

not bouldering I guess?

Do you have any peference to which island? They are both going to be wet and cold at that time of year, just depends on how wet and cold you wanna get.
South island has castle hill, excellent bouldering on limestone that gets sickier the colder it is... This is also close to arthurs pass national park which has some pretty cool tramping trips if you don't mind he possibility of getting snowed on!
North island has less dedicated bouldering options, especially in winter as it starts to rain properly up there... But it is slighty warmer than the south island (although doesn't feel that way when your soaked to the skin in a southerly gale!)
I'm making this sound really appealing, but winter is still pretty cool despite the rain!
Slab climbing in 2 easy steps.
