I wonder if someone would be interested in a short 1-2 days sport ice climbing trip on West coast, Franz Josef or Fox glacier before June 20th? I’m residing in Christchurch and have my own transport and ice gear (no screws though). I do not lead but can top rope WI2-3-4+ (US system).

Dude I am super keen as. I climbed Fox in November last year, walk in is not all that bad and good camping close by. I also have transport. I am happy to top rope WI4 and up, great fun. I also reside in ChCh so yeah, I am super keen

Isn't "sport ice" watching the Tour de France with a gin and tonic?

Eeh, sport usually means 1 pitch without exhausting 3 days approach but gin/tonic/ice will work as well... afterwards! Wink

PS (to Quentin): just sent email.

In a way yes BUT every man is entitled to his own sort of fun, in my instance, top roping overhanging glacier climbs but visualizing no rope (leading upsidedown), and one last thing (gin and tonic happens to be a very good drink Wink

Well, did it a bit earlier than planned! Some pictures from Fox glacier:

We were top roping WI2-3-4 from Abalakov V thread with backup on one ice screw. Now thinking of Franz Josef on July 11.

Mint weather.  Question - after that first photo was taken, did you trip?

Well, after it was taken we both rappelled down onto somewhat flat ice where we found yet another good place to climb - check pic. #4.
