PRESS RELEASE – 29/9/06

WANAKA MOUNTAIN FILM FESTIVAL FILMS SCREENED AT OCEANIA SPORTCLIMBING CHAMPIONSHIPS

While Australasia’s top sportclimbers pit their skills during the Oceania Sportclimbing Championships next weekend, some of rock climbing’s most thrilling scenes from formidable mountain ranges around the world will also be on display at BaseCamp Wanaka.

Seven international short films that were screened during this year’s Wanaka Mountain Film Festival will be played in an outdoor marquee at BaseCamp Wanaka throughout the three-day competition, on October 6-8.

The films feature stories of thrill seekers climbing seemingly impossible rock routes and include: Greenland – 40 Days and 40 Nights (USA), Mountain Without Barriers (USA), Bug Out (USA), Tough Love, (NZ), Parallelojams (USA), Blood Sweat & Bagels (UK) and Last Exit Titlis (Germany).

“These films are great stories about different people’s experiences in rock climbing. We are extremely grateful to Mark Sedon, organizer of the Wanaka Mountain Film Festival, for providing these films for the public to enjoy during the Oceania Sportclimbing Championships,” BaseCamp director Toby Johnston said.

Meanwhile, the dates have been set for next year’s Wanaka Mountain Film Festival. It will be held from July 5-8, 2007.

BaseCamp Wanaka is New Zealand’s first indoor mountain adventure centre and is also the country’s newest climbing wall. For further information, please visit www.oceania.org.nz.
