Waitomo NBS 2008 - Saturday 16th Feb
The Waitomo leg of the NBS is on this Saturday the 16th of Feb. It will be as good as always if the weather holds for us.
The local crew has been busy and there is an update to the guide for the day with new problems from last year including 3 V9’s and the tomo’s first V10 (Stu the power man came through with the goods here).
www.nbs.org.nz has everything else you need to know.
Thanks
The H-Town Massive
When will we know if it has been postponed or not? All the reports are for heavy rain tomorrow. Fine sunday
I thought it was on the NBS website at 9:00am.
Does that mean if we're travelling down from auckland we won't know till we get there?
Oh and if anyone is in need, I'll have a few boulder mats / Z spots for hire on the day (If i can find out which day as I'm only allowed 1 day out so can't wait the weekend out down there...) From $5 for a small mat, $10 for a Zspot and $15 for my Enormat...
Pretty much. :(
if the NBS is a no go then there's this nice little crag down the road which stays dry. I think it also has a bouldering cave. just in case you dont wanna rope up.
i'm keen to see these Z spot pads.
I'm keen to see this new crag, Looks like a win win situation...
or a wet, win win. At least we can't loose...
its always winning when your climbing :D
see you tomorrow. bring bolts.
Yeah Im going down.. rain hail... oh well.. "its only weather" 8)
so was the event postponed or not? there isnt an update on nzbs...
not... rained a little early in the day but fine'd up quite nicely. a fun day had by all i think. big party at the kewa crag tonight!!!!!!!!!!!
Yeah the morning drizzle.... well it just sucked... lets just say that... and leave it there
I did get sun burnt.. so there must of been sun at some stage!
I thought there would have been alot more people but at a guess perhaps around 50 entrants. Big plus was TON'S of little kids out there giving it a go (12-18 year olds and plenty of girls too!).. and the little shits down at the Cave cranking V4-5's while I was getting thrashed one the one V4 I tried... very annoying but proud of the little guys going hard
Perhaps everyone was a little scared off by the rain but good on the organizers for just letting it go even tho it was a little wet in the morning. We camped down there Friday night... I think people just need to harden up a little
I think the hardest problem done was a V8?
PS: mnatti how do you say Te Kuiti again mate?
A v8?
Stu Kurth did a V10 and a V9
I think saying the hardest problem done without any obvious homework done on the comment is belittling Stus awesome effort!

You needle dick... didn't you read what I said?
"I think the hardest problem was a v8?"
It was a question... goddam, to much country air for someone...
twas raining in auckland sat morning so didnt think it would be happening. :(
Well Phil.... it may have spat a little at the airstrip.... but you could have gone elsewhere in the local area if it really got bad! I still have your shoes mate. As that my car had a few "issues," I'll be heading back out this coming weekend to pick it up and do a bit more climbing at Mangaokewa.
right well weather permitting hope to make it down this weekend too...
so see you next weekend. as an aside, have you checked out the crags round teanga? some look a bit soft, some look quite good.
...also, have beta about some more great potential down your way, me dad knows everyone out there and has done some scoping. keeping it quiet till i check them out myself though. they're privately owned and the farmer is happy for climbers to access them.
HELL yeah I've checked out those Te Ananui crags! Look bloody brilliant, at least as sport crags. Would need at least marine grade stainless if not countersunk titanium i's, though. Nasty corrosion out there. :( Love the psychedelic raspberry ripple rock, orange and purple and green and black and yellow.

As stated in the post (general thread section), there is free camping for all, 15 minutes down the road at Mangaokewa Reserve off state highway 30 for those interested. Let's try to get a good gig going Saturday night! Bring instruments (if you have them), adult beverages and "party favors!"
Climb hard, fall soft
