Hi Everyone,

Just a reminder that the first event of the National Boulder Series (NBS) is coming up on Saturday 21st of January at The Airstrip at Waitomo. (bad weather postponement day is Sunday the 22nd) so get those bouldering muscles warmed up and ready for a great day. The Airstrip has over 150 quality problems in the main area from ranging from VE to V8 including the Grot View cave for those that are strong with plenty of endurance. Enough to keep everyone happy!

Entry is only $10 or $5 if you are a lucky NZAC member with your entry getting you your own personal guide to the Airstrip area, a BBQ sausage, and a drink at the prize giving (not to mention a very good chance of picking up a excellent spot prize). The event will be clearly signed posted from SH3 from Friday night. Additional information is on the NBS website [www.nbs.org.nz]. Registration is at 09:30 with the climbing starting at 10:00 and going to 15:00. Prize giving/BBQ is at 15:30

If you are intending to get some secret training in before the comp please don’t forget that permission is required to climb at the Airstrip for each visit. Please call the farmer – Ben Stubbs on 07 878 7426. Don’t be a tool and spoil the access for everyone else

On the weekend of the comp pre arranged camping is available from Friday night at $5 per person around the ASG caving hut. Please contact me on 021 779 970 or 07 828 6850 to arrange this.

97 climbers took part in the inaugural 2004 Waitomo NBS event which was a great success and a record for a NBS event .

If you’ve got any questions I’ll do my best to answer them for you.

Thanks

Dear Elgrande

Registration will most likely be open until about 10:30 and then we’ll be all going bouldering (The H-town Massive will be representing) so registrations will close around then. For OSH compliance and so that all are clear on the rules etc everyone bouldering on the day should be present at the pre-start event safety briefing which will take place at about 09:50.

If that’s not going to work for you please give me a call (work DDI 07 828 6850 or 021 779 970) and we’ll see what we can do for you.

Re travel times from Auckland – if you go the back way from Ngaruawahia to Otorohanga (avoids Hamilton and Te Awamutu) it should take you about 2.5 hours to get to the Airstrip.

Hope that helps

Regan, Rich Morgan, Craig M etc - be great to have you and your crews all there.

Thanks

The General

Just a tip...if you turn off SH1 at the Glen Murray bridge (just before you get to Rangiriri) you can miss Ngaruawahia, Taupiri, Huntly, Hamilton, Te Awamutu and all of the usual summer roadworks between...it takes a bit off the journey.

Dear all,

Weather is looking good for Saturday and the bouldering over the last few weeks both on the weekends and after work at The Airstrip has been superb. Lots of secret training has been done in anticipation of the NBS and the local bouldering crews are looking forward to a great day. Hope to see you there.

Thanks

Believe me Cliff and Scott are making the mission down.
Will find out from them on Thursday.

Looking forward to it.

Dear all,

As expected the Waitomo leg of the 2006 NZAC NBS was a huge success. 95 entries, good weather (after raining all Friday night – a sleepless night in Waitomo for some…), and some great sends including a project or two getting put up! The Grot View Cave provided some great spectator action and the beers and the BBQ at the end went down a treat. Not bad for 10 bucks aye. The event even got on the front page of the mighty Waikato Times on Monday with more photos on page 5

Thanks to all the sponsors (NZAC, Bivouac, Cactus, Metolius, Riley Retreads, Tools of the Adventure, Chalky Digits, Naked Snack Bars and local Waitomo event sponsor The Legendary Black Water Rafting), for supporting the event and thanks to all the climbers who turned up to have a great day bouldering.

Local hard man Bevan Jenkins took out the Expert men’s and Emma Hawke took out the Expert woman’s. Full results will be posted on the NBS website soon!

Get training for next year team!

Thanks
