Hi mojozone,
I'm at the start of a bouldering tour of New Zealand and am looking to get out to Waiheke, can anyone post some info on where the boulders are/access issues etc?
Am going to aim to jump on a ferry tomorrow (sunday) so if anyone wants a spot or an extra pad and can point me in the right direction that'd be cool.
Cheers
Andy

Hi Andy, head out to Stony Batter, on the north end of the island - then walk down the path for a short while, you can't miss the boulders...

heaps of Rock up north. try bouldering around Whagarei on the limestone outcrops that are all over the place.
There is some great outcrops further north just keep your eyes open and be prepared to ask for access across farmers land.

Wairere boulders are awesome but the owners are not receptive to overtures we have made for climbing activities on their land. If you want to ask again go for it. There are some great boulders that are not actually within the public walk area that you may be able to get access to including a five star monstrosity right outside his house.

Hi Climbers
I am the owner of the Wairere Boulders and came across your page.
We do not allow bouldering in the tourism area, because we have plants growing on the boulders, plants that are up to 500 years old. So we do not wish them to be destroyed.

There is a possibility of climbing on boulders in the paddocks at your own risk. Cattle might be around and you have to report to us beforehand by phone 09 401 9935. There is also a charge for using up our parking space which is built for the tourists walking our boulder encounter.

Kind regards
Felix
