I know this will get some 'Its just a game, who cares ! I'm a climber blah blah blah', but Godammit ! I care !
Never played Rugger, probably never will but I do love to watch the AB's play.
All sorts of talk about why they lost. Rotated players too much etc - maybe.
Bad ref ? Maybe , but he's not why they lost.
Not enough passion ? YES !!
Check out the AB's singing our anthem !
My theory - all the other teams had huge amounts of national pride (not just a pay cheque) in thier hearts. Look at them sing ! Collectively the AB's just did'nt have it.

Shouldn't this be in Buddies? or Events?

Aye - am in the same boat. ven worse have friend in AB management. MY g/f is on the plane back to NZ right now and said teh AB's are on it (one is her 2nd cousin).

I was pretty stunned and haven't had my heart rate so high for years as I did in the last 10 mins when it was might not recover.

I'm also pissed off with how people now are talking as if the world has ended, that all the selection policy (rotation was wrong) etc etc. We made a couple of bad choices. That happens. The ref was ....ummm not even close to helpful. It was not our god given right to the cup. I probably wouldn't have changed the team or maybe one or two positions and am not sure if that would have made any difference.

People say we should have played the best XV more but with a squad you will always have injuries and form changing.

I think we had a pretty good side maybe should have started Nick Evans because I think Carter was not 100%.

However I'm inclined to think that there was a small degree of passion missing and possibly complacency given that we had beaten them in the last 7 or 8 Tests.

I don't think it is THAT bad - we are still a great side of great players and hope we go out next year and answer our critics by rubbing everyones noses into teh dirt... assuming we still have some players left !!

That's what I've been thinking, though I haven't seen the game yet (will probably watch tonight).
A bit too much of the ol' "yeah, we're prepared, she'll be right...", and not enough "we're going to play at %110, because the frogs can bloody well surprise you and kick your ass if you're not ready for it..."
just my $.02

onwell having won every other rugby trophy on offer it does seem fair to at leastoffer one back to the rest of the world... at times the all blacks play at a level that no other teams even approach, and thats worth remembering..
it is only a game...? isnt it

I think this sums up the nations general attitude:

Yep, plan B.

So who are you all supporting now that the AB's are out.

Argument is to support the French, cos then if they win, theoretically we could have made the final :-)

But Southern Hemisphere cousinship should count for something, so may I suggest South Africa (though I guess Los Pumas are Southern Hemisphere cuz too)

Am struggling with this.... a lot

England is a no no obviously

South Africa - probably couldn't do it too many old wounds.

Argentina - will support them against Sth Africa

France probably if they get through if England gets through has to be whoever even South Africa

Not to stop the thread drift by any means, but I just started watching the game.
Interesting intimidation technique by france, standing on the centre line during the Haka like that.
But.....my theory is that they lost because they weren't playing in black. Those outfits just look wrong! :?

Sorry.....you may continue now....
Oh, and I tip SA. Not sure why exactly :P, but they seemed pretty strong before the RWC started.

France - You just need to spend some time their, climb their rock, climb their mountains, drink their wine, eat their food and love their women and you will change your mind. :D

Like Iraq, the Rainbow Warrior was not the will of the people.

Oh and Gabe there is a difference between tipping and supporting

True true.
I have to admit that the sound of the French language coming from a beautiful women has always made me weak at the knees.
In fact, when I think about it, I have never met a French person I did'nt like.
Keep in mind I have never met one of thier politicians.

Good point, though "support" isn't exactly the word I'm looking for either...

I guess, "I think SA will win the WC" is about right.

we were far too cocky. we thought we were good because we had a piss easy pool. if we were really that good why would we have the highest number of handling errors of any team in the RWC (1 every 3 minutes of play i heard) i blame too much rotation, find a fantastic 15/20 and play them...

in saying that i think french national pride played a huge role in it as well, when was the last time you saw a team actively stand up to, and defy the haka??? the french are VERY passionate people and when they get behind something, they see it through to the end (french revelution anyone?)

my support now goes to france, it would be awesome for european rugby. the southern hemisphere has dominated for to long.

bring on 2011!

The AB's lost because they were the favourites..up there on a pedestal to be knocked off and the French battled and fought, just like the English did against the Aussies. The AB's believed that they would win at a canter and thats what did them.
Not sure wht they didnt play in black...maketing ploy to get all the NZ fans to fork out money on new replica shirts???
Anyway we are going to "stuff" the Frenchies in the semis (Agincourt spirit) even though they have home advantage.

and whats so cool about Gaulloise smoking, garlic breath, hairy armpitted women?
Not that I'm jealous, they have Font, the verdon and lots of other fantastic limestome, the alps, sunshine, fine wine..when I can have warm beer, drizzle and the Lancashire quarries!!!!
Merde for now

I heard they won the boat race though.... but went a little overboard. My question is how the F*CK do you spend 31,000 dollars in a pub?

one serving of vertical reality is guaranteed to get you high

It was the Hilton, they had dinner too... $31000 /7 is about $4500 each and they probably bought a few rounds for the bar...

So who else is going to be supporting the Boks?

Based on their performance against Los Pumas, they'll have to lift their game I reckon to beat a resurgent English team. Hope we actually see some running rugby, not just a forwards battle with the odd kick.

England or SA?

Well I CAN'T support England and supporting the Springboks is equally abhorrent but I guess in the interests of Southern Hemisphere rugby that it may need to be teh Springboks but it would be very muted
