When does Tramping/Hiking become Climbing?
Do you think the terms are based around difficulty or objectives?
Are Grade 1 mountains tramping or climbing? What about Grade -1? When does a tramp become a climb?
Help me discover who I am.
if you're thinking of adding a sit-start then it's probably climbing
if you're thinking of skipping a bolt or extending a draw then it's probably climbing
if by climbing you mean mountaineering then you're probably a tramper
some context to assist:
colin todd via beven col = tramping
olivine ice plateau via wherever and peaks from the plateau = tramping
most crossings east-west or reverse of the southern alps = tramping
anything in the north island without two tools and/or placing pro = probably tramping
skiing off convex slopes = questionable
