Howdy,

I’m not sure what sort of shoes I should be looking for, anyone have any advise?

I started climbing at the end of last summer and am climbing around 21’s at the quarry (where I do most of my climbing but hoping to venture father afield this summer). I know it depends on your style of climbing but as I’m new and only had one pair of shoes I don’t have much to compare to.

At first I was looking at getting some FiveTen Anasazi’s but they don’t seem to have much of a toe on them and wondering whether something like the Red Chili Corona would suit the quarry better.

Cheers for any advice,

Jonny

Try some Anasazi Velcro's... If you can, look for the older (brown) ones, a lot of places selling them super cheap to get rid of them before the new ones start coming into NZ.

Anasazi is a good option, but you need to troop around all the shops and try on everything you can. Try not to get too confused by them all, you are looking for a brand or style that fits your foot. I started wearing La Sportiva and now have about 5 pairs of theirs. I own other shoes as well, but don't seem to wear them.

Way back 5:10 had the best rubber by far, but the others have caught up these days.

When you are choosing a size, think about how much walking around you have done in the day, how hot it is etc, and don't tough it up too much, you can buy your next pair a bit smaller. If you find you went too small, try wearing them in the shower a few times!

I've never owned red chillies - but have an impression they don't last well. What do others think?

sounds like a fashion accessory instead of a climbing shoe!

Keep your ears peeled and don't tell anyone but rumor is that the Extreme Edge in panmure may be stocking 5.10's (Verde's and vcr's(?)) very very soon...

Getting up in the game since ages ago...

If any one is interested Scarpa Climbing shoes are not going to be around in New Zealand for much longer... So they are clearing stock and we have a few here. If you are interested in the Mago/Vision/Sphinx give me a shout at the shop. http://www.stoneycreekshop.co.nz/specials/scarpa-booster-climbing-shoes.html
