The last long weekend until October is upon us, so some of us in Welly are planning a trip away to take advantage. Since a friend recently accused the Welly climbing scene as being a hard bunch to crack, I thought I'd let others know just in case they were interested. The current plan is currently under negotiation (Wharepapa for 3 days is too much), so feel free to pipe up.

There are other groups going away that weekend, with Whanganui Bay as being the destination of choice. If you want in on the action let me know and I'll check with 'the hood'.

Of course if you have transportation, that's waaaay better and easier.

Really us Welly lot are mostly a genial bunch so not knowing us is no excuse (just pop down to Ferg's/Hang Dog to say hello). If you want to go away just say! :)

Rich Morgan there is a conflict between those who are enlightened, and concerned with goals that supersede the life-span of a single individual, and those who only grasp the obvious, and focus on superficial, material pursuit

Errrr Yes. That's nice climber, you go for it. Us in the NI might have to go for more...northern sites.

AS for you Claydon, you're a sick man and you have a problem. I think you should seek help for that little obsession with The Airstrip. We need to get you back on some roped climbing, you know those walls which are over 4m high. Better yet a little pre 9am wakeup call might shock that fetish right out of you  .

As for anyone else, there haev been a couple of nominations to go to Kawakawa Bay. Any advise as to what it's like as a winter destination?

Kawakawa Bay is fabulous in the winter.
But don't tell everyone or they will all be up here. It was shirts off at Whanganui last weekend, cool in the shade but roasty in the sun, perfect.

We fell asleep last July in the warm mid day sun at the base of Orchestrated Litany of Lunges at the bay, an after lunch snooze, that may give you an idea of how great it can be here.

I find it amusing that a post from Queen's B-day LAST YEAR has been reopened... rather than creating a new one! On that note.... I'm with Claydon this go around, I'll be up at the arirstrip for the weekend (though I may take a "rest day" and head to Waipapa dam).

Theres always the second round of the 2007 NZSF Difficulty and Speed climbing competition at Hang Dog this weekend. :P
Its going to be great. You could compete on the saturday and go bouldering at the"rak" or baring head for the 2 days after. If not competing watching the finals where young gun louie o'brien will face off against the experienced Paul "Cannons" Coggan in the Open Mens Catergory. It was a great final to watch last competition and i imagine its going to be even better with Paul keen to show it wasn't just a once off.

Come on now, it been "cold" here the last couple of weeks. Of course that means < 20C before about 9am. I'm suprised that after 5 and a half years n NZ it does feel a little chilly. Prefect climbing weather mind you.
