Dodgey admin action....or just a glitch in the database?

The climbing(?) and politics Thread seems to have dissapeared!!
Wonder how that happened, it was just starting to get interesting too

......are certain user accounts going to start dissapearing soon too?

Damn I started that thread...

Just a note to Rowan: I was kinda getting used to Jack; he's sort of become part of the forum. I don't think he's nearly as annoying as he used to be. I've got the impression that you hadn't been on the forum very much recently and still had in your head what Jack was like a few months ago, so when you saw one of his recent posts you assumed he hadn't changed...

Regardless, you were way too harsh on him.

Ref Etiquette post below, yes I slagged him off, yes I was harsh, yes I've done 95% of the work on this site, yes it can seem a little meglomanic'like, no I don't care.

Because it's all the old school people (ie my mates) that made this site good and it's the old school people that are complaining that this forum has gone to the dogs.

I actually removed the thread when another one of the young kids chimed in and wrote a well harsher post, well uncalled for post after Jack responded and quite frankly I didn't actually want Jack reading it.

Anyway I've got work to do. Case closed. Move on.

Right it needs to be said. Quit the bullshit.

This site is financed by me (now sponsored by my company) for the climbing community. You see no advertising, you don't have to pay a dime, and you aren't required to do anything or contribute to it in any way shape or form.

I don't need to see posts slagging each other off or endless drivel, thats not what I built it for, and thats not how people should behave if they want to have rights to post on here.

Pull your heads in or you get banned. You know who you are. Young'uns, this is not a playground for mouthing off, old'uns it's not a place for slagging off the young'uns.

Listen, I know how much work running a website is, and probably few people appreciate that more than I (it is part of my day job).
But if someone really pisses you off, then might I suggest you ban them, instead of deleting a 3 page thread that was started by someone else, and the person how pissed you off only posted 2-3 times in!!???
I could go on and on about how much this has angered me, but that is actually a discussion for the Comments forum.
Rowan, if you relly want people to hate the site and say that is is going 'downhill', then keep deleting entire threads!!!

I deleted one thread when I saw a response that went way OTT.

In 3 years I've deleted the some total of 3-4 threads of mojozone and 1 user. I would say for an unmoderated public forum, thats pretty good going, no ?

I wasn't questioning your authority, just your use of it.
Don't get me wrong, I like this site, and how you run it. I wouldn't spend so much time on it if I didn't.
I was just questioning whether it was necessary to delete a whole thread, which Rob started (not Jack), just because of one post. Couldn't just that one post have been deleted??
At the end of the day, it doesn't matter, it was a thread full of drivel anyway 8)
(although, I thought that is what SmackTalk was for)

To put it into perspective - In order to keep mojozone going there is a very real risk that I'm going to have to delete the entire forum sub system and start afresh. As I need to when I get it to Canada, move it onto one of my own servers, the forum software that this runs is full of security holes and way to risky to have alongside one of my clients systems.

I can just imagine the furore and outcry now..

:D yeah, me too.
Oh well, with an explanation beforehand, hopefully most people will understand that it has to be done.
Would it be possible to just migrate the data from the current DB to a new one, or is the new system going to be truely that different in structure?

As a non-profit shits and giggles website, who has the right to complain?

Rowans actions may impinge on freedom of speech, but this is his toy which we're luck to be allowed to play with. He makes it sound like an old boys club, but once again, if you don't like it, lump it.

Not bad. I'm glad Mojo isn't just a slagging match like RC.com. And that's a "moderated" site.

I would say that is excellent going. Nor do I think you where too harsh on anyone.

Yeah phpbb is full of exploits and holes - which you don't want somthing that running on a mission critical production server for clients.

Could you not just keep phpbb updated and running on its own crappy server? Surely you could export the database and run some other forum software, no?
