Hi Team,

Just a reminder that NBS Waitomo is coming up soon. All the usual Waitomo fun, plenty of prizes, good times, beers, sheep shit and some wikkid Limestone problems that we all love. Come for the weekend and if on Sunday you've still got juice in the tank go and hit the local crags (or pub).

The Stubb's have kindly allowed camping this year around the ASG hut for Friday and Saturday nights. $5 per person. Let me know if you are coming to camp at: d.r.addison[at]gmail.com or 021 843 762

All details at www.nbs.org.nz

See ya there ready to crank

Just a reminder it's all on this weekend. Don't forget your sunscreen!

Also - if anyone is coming up from Wellington and then heading back for the Baring Head comp can you please get in touch (021 843 762) - we have some comp gear than needs to get to Wellington and if we can save on a courier charge then it means more beer and sausages for everyone.

See you Saturday!

First line under event info page (contents page 2) , times are shown in bold, registration from 09:00, event briefing from 09:45, event start at 10:00

On the day watch out for the actual boulders. They are rather large and will hurt when you don't see them and walk into them. Would like to minimise first aid incidents on the day if possible.

I have also seen small boulders hide behind larger ones, then jump out and crush people when they least expect it. What is the NBS management doing to minimise this risk to the public???

I was down there a couple of weekends ago talking to the Stubb's about a rouge bull that got loose... I hope they have rounded it up for the weekend.

a little red bull could be quite handy on the day   but really, you city climbers have nothing to worry about... the big scary farm animals will be kept well away from the climbers, least they be molestered.

I know it sounds amazing given all the rain in the last 24 hours but the forecast for Saturday is actually all good. It does not take much sunshine to dry everything out (Grott View cave may be a little damp in the morning) so it should be all good in the hood.

I have a large pile of very cool prizes sitting in my garage including free beer (Speights Summit) and boxes and boxes of Em's Power Cookies (nice) ready to be loaded up and passed onto the masses. The guides (updated) have been printed and the Stubbs have the BBQ ready so we are all go go go.

All jokes aside we have actually had small boulders jump off the top of large boulders and land on people before.....not so nice.....all the established lines "should" be pretty solid now, but (always a but - more of a risk for new problems), all climbers should assess all lines themselves. To paraphrase years of heavy industry safety propaganda that I've had to sit through "The best person to manage your safety is you". Bullshit I know but a grain of truth regardless, especially for climbing.

A realistic, specific, practical, and short safety briefing is given at the start of the event for those not familiar with the area and the local hazards (or is that locals that are a hazard??? can never remember which way around that is....). Advanced first aid will also be available on the day so we've hopefully covered all the bases that we can.

See ya Saturday :D

Get day had by all on Saturday. The weather was near perfect for climbing with a nice cool morning great for sending. Great to see everyone pumped up and ready for action!

93 entries in total with James "Da Man" Morris taking out the expert men and Terezka Kejdanova taking out the expert woman's section. Results up on the nbs website soon. Great to see a young cranking crowd there. Some performances of note from some strong, young climbers.

Thanks to all that came along and also to the sponsors. See you at the rest of the 2009 NBS and at Waitomo again in 2010.

Special thanks also to Chris North at the NZAC for all his back office work and hooking us up with booty! :D

Shame about those hands in the bottom of the picture tho  Will get Ant to send me the high res and ill edit them out for you

Yeah I had a great day spectating... Even managed to change my spot prize luck and walk away with a caving adventure... fully stocked as I never been down into the caves and was talking about doing it when driving passed (Ok I talk about it everytime I go passed), so very worthy and happy winner

Heard some rumours that some Team Extremers were planning on doing Barring Head..

Hahahah!

That is the best pic I've seen in a Fkn long time Zane!

Should be your aim to get that type of pic at every crag...

How's your shoulder?

In a couple weeks we should hit up quarry - when my fingers a bit better. I wanna steal some beta for Zorns! :-)
