Went up Moraine Creek to Lake Adelaide with my mate Darren for a look-see last week. We'd heard a few stories about it taking ages and prepared ourselves for a long day. We were then somewhat surprised when the DOC sign at the walkwire (20mins from the road) said 4 hours to the lake and a further 2 hours to Phils Biv. The track was actually in really good nick and was well cut and marked, and we had a pretty good snow covering over most of the moraine at the top which sped things up, but it still took us about 7 hours to reach the lake. In summer you could probably add on almost an hour due to the tedium of getting through the moraine, which means 8 hours for an average party, or 10 hours if you're going to Phil's Biv.

Has anyone else experienced similar times for getting up Moraine Creek, or were we just really slow? I'd like to write something to DOC about it as I believe the "4 hours" is very misleading. (Somebody had actually scratched "Bullsh*t" next to the "4 hours" on the sign...)

Still, we had a fantastic trip - definitely an inspiring place, and after seeing Sabre that close there's no way I can forget about giving it a go sometime, but perhaps not this time of year...

I came in from the opposite direction over Mt (Forgotten the name!, the one Labyrinth is on) and down Giffords crack took about 8 hours, guide says 6 but that's for really fit parties I guess. Giffords Crack is easier to find the second time round. The route was straight forward apart from finding the start of Giffords Crack.
