How to unseat... that other website
If you google nz climbing or other variations there is usually just one other website that comes out ahead of Mojozone. We all know that it isn't really maintained much now and out of date - so how come it stays ahead and what can we do about unseating its position for a more deserving website?
I honestly don't know.....sorry
This page will probably give you (and me too) some good ideas though.
Edit, crap! I just read on that page that something I posted above was half wrong. I better fix it.... :P
Realy? I get Mojo :D :D :D
google itself explains quite alot how to get your site rankings improved...
People spend millions to get their site more prominent in google...
there's a good 100 or so factors in determining page rank on google, dependent on keyword use will and time of the month (yes google does get pms) google will return varying results for mojo.
fact is it would take a lot more on page and a shitload more off page optimisation to get mojo to #1 on everything, and a lot does boil down to 'that' other site being there for a good number of years earlier and being linked to from everywhere in the world.

mojo
ps: banff rocks.

Ignore everything below, and just read this page instead!
Some of the things that Google apparently uses are (in no particular order):
1) Actual body content (that one is kind of obvious)
2) Sites that pay them  (okay, also not surprising, but it does upset some people...)
3) Number of links from other sites to the site in question
4) Number of references on other site to the site in question (not absolutely sure about this one)
I am sure there are other criteria, but I believe these are the major ones.
I think points 1 and 2 are moot, as there is easily as much and probably more relavant content on this site as on 'the other one', and I am fairly sure neither site has paid Google for good results.
That leaves 3 and 4. According to Google, MojoZone has 12 links and 321 refrerences to it, whereas our competitor has 54 and 429, respectively.
I think the links might be the problem, but have no way to verify this, other than to get a bunch more links out there and see what happens.
BTW, this is one of the reasons online forums like this one get spammed so badly, and why you see so many users being created with websites like www.v1agra.com... It isn't just to get the direct response, but also to get better standings in search results.
