This is sort of a continuation of some of the discussion whithin F&C MAN's thread on Marble Point, but not enough to justify a resurrection...
Anyway, I just wanted to say that Jollies Rock(s) is not near Jollies Pass, but if you are around Hanmer and you find it (it is very visible, just north of Jacks Pass), it is well worth a visit!

I got a mini guide from Bryan Saric, who had a mention in the second to last Climber mag and pasted it on to Ben Winnubst who's doing the Nelson/Marlborough NZAC guide, which he'll be including Jollies Rock in the guide, out I think around summerish??? Be good I think!
Haven't climbed there yet, I gotta get my arsehole first I suppose. Had a look up at the rock, which is very nice for the area (which is mostly poo's).

I don't think it made it into that Guide did it? Hopefully we can get hold of Bryan Saric ( contact details anyone?) and include his stuff n climb NZ and maybe get info on earlier ascents that I know were done about 2 years before.

The rock is actually quite good quality, typical fractures for greywacke, but great friction. The guide doesn't mention whether the gear is good or not, which threw us a bit when we couldn't see half of the placements, but it is there if you are patient and just keep climbing. The only real drawback, other than the 40min uphill slog, is the fact that the cliff is protected from nothing! If it is windy, it is really windy, if it is sunny, it is really sunny, if it is raining....well, you get the idea

From the NZAC website:

"Jollies Rocks, Hanmer: A guide to cragging at Jollies Rocks, Hanmer. (updated PDF to be added)"

Does anyone have this in an electronic format? Willing to post it, pass it on?

I have it - I was looking at putting info onto climb.org.nz but was trying to get permission first.

Would really appreciate a copy of this guide if possible!

If it doesn't get dirt, grease or blood under your nails, it's not a hobby.
