Not sure if anyone in Chch is still active here (it's been so quiet), but I figured I would mention it anyway...

Thanks to the efforts of Michael B., Evans Pass is again officially open to climbers Smile

Access is from the Summit Rd (easiest to walk up the track from intersection, and drop down to the left end of the crag).

The quarry will probably be blasting a bit in March, but will let the Alpine Club know ahead of time. So, best to check with the NZAC before you head up there, unless you like climbing shaking rocks Wink

What is the status of the Tors - given that Troy had that groundfall there the other day i assume it's open again?

Aha! I thought you might know some more about that....

Sorry, I don't know if the Tors are officially open again or not.

I did hear from Michael that someone had a hell of a fall though.

What happened? Bad gear...no gear....is he okay (didn't sound good)?

also Pat Deavoll hit the deck at Britten after forgetting to tie back in after threading the rope - broken vertebrae ok will mend but worst is the burn to hand requiring plastic surgery

Is there a crag at Evan's Pass or are you talking about Jane Fonda, which was never closed in the first place?  Quarry blasting in March?

Neither was the Tors ever closed.

Hi Jamie

There is a crag at Evans Pass - developed by Joe and Lindsay mainly.

I was talking to Ollie (NZAC) today and officially the Tors is still closed. The Landowners still do not want people climbing there.

See this thread here http://mojozone.co.nz/forum/the-tors-is-closed

I suggest talking to Lindsay or to Ollie just to confirm the current status

and Phil!! Suffers from some trully dodgy bolting (chainlink hangers and I don't think the bolts are stainless) so maybe it could be Entwistle's next project? There's actually some 1/2 decent routes there ('6 bolts missing' in particular I remember as quite nice) so good to see it open again

I've got the online guide files (backed em up before geocities shutdown) and since I don't think Evans is in South Island Rock might be an idea to get them back up online somewhere if it's open! Anyone got a suitable online guide site?

Was up at Evans Pass yesterday and if anyone is looking for a project then cleaning the lichen and moss would be a good one. Also the crag could do with another couple of belay/rap bolts set back from the edge though there is one set. Apart from that the place has alot of offer.
