As I thumbed through my south island rock (first edition) it mentioned that you should call to check for access before climbing in Duntroon and that the numbers for each area were listed latter in the guide.

I couldn't find a number for elephant rock. Is this area on private land? And if so who should I call for access?

no you should be okay. it is a tourist area so people stop and walk in all the time. you can't drive your car in anymore.

you probably should get permission to climb the routes at sin city etc.

hulk hogan is sweet as well, no permission needed.

was at elephant rock yesterday and there was no problem re access - although alot of the problems were quite dirty and it didn't seem like many people had climbed much there for a while.

as Dunc said, check out Hulk Hogan, it's damn good fun
