Hello!

I'm coming to New Zealand at January, 2. , starting in Christchuch. I'd like to cycle from climbing spot to climbing spot - first of all on the South Island. So I'm looking for climbing partners (also for bouldering) or even a cyclist who also climbs. I like sport climbing but alpine climbing as well. Please ask for more detailed information.

So long, Gerald

Hey Gerald,

I'm landing in Christchurch on January 2nd also with my road bike and trailer, and no itinerary for three weeks.  My main plan is to bike around and explore the south island, mostly camping with an occasional backpackers stay.  I was hoping to do some climbing or bouldering, so and am very interested in joining you for at least a part of my trip.

I've not been to NZ before.  I'm an avid climber, but have not been at it long (3 yrs).  I love both sport and alpine, but have not done any outdoor leading as yet, except for a couple of easy (5.8) routes just this past month.  I climb 2 to 3 days a week in the gym, and regularly lead up to 5.10 routes there.  As for difficulty level, I top out around 5.10b or 10c outdoors (19 to 22 approx).  In the gym I can occasionally tackle an easy 5.11.

Get in touch, it would be fun to hook up for a while if it's a match.

Hallo Ronnie,

thanks for your reply. Your plan is my plan. The only difference is that i can stay till the 12. of march and so i would like to visit the northern island as well. Besides climbing i would like to do some walking in the mountains too. But that - because i am most interested in climbing - i could do somewhen later.

I live in Berlin / Germany and i am a avid climber too, almost the same level as you (up to 5.11 in routes i know, with enough bolts, alpine climbing in the dolomites up to 5.10b).

So it would be fine to get in closer contact with you! Because of the weight of my luggage (only 30 kg is allowed with emirates, not one extra kilogramm for my bicycle ) i can't bring along a rope, but some quickies, a harness, shoes etc. But in Cristchurch I could buy a rope, of course.

I think It's the best if we contact each other via email directly: Here is mine:   strahlg@gmx.de

So long !

Gerald
