i dont own a boulder mat or know much about them as i dont boulder too much ( i must get one and start bouldering though) but i would suggest keeping it real and getting a new zealand brand like cactus, as i dont know much about them they may be crap

why dont they have pills to cure a climbing addiction yet?

Cactus pads are all good, so are Tools of the adventure which is my recommendation.

Both are solid, good quality local merchandise.

How much did you pay for your TOTA mat? How does it compare with the Cactus one size etc.

Hypocrite.

Anywho, I have a cactus. It's a very well constructed pad with good features. I will say that the local pads lack some niceties like fold around flaps to make the pad into a pocket to store gear in, and many don't have a proper set of backpack straps, with waist belt. Not that this really matters as boulderers don't walk further than 50m to pebble wrestle.

The cactus has two mats that join into a square or length wise into a bed pad (very comfy). However this leads to a soft gutter.

I know there are some small manufactures in chch (no brand, as it's garage industry), but I don't have a contact for any.

I haven't seen any behemoth pads locally. And the one online site I've seen one in NZ was $799, cricky!

i have to say as much as i LOVE cactus gear, i wouldn't buy one of their pads. too small and thin for my liking. i have a mad rock 'mad pad' and i rate it highly... pain in the arse to fit in my little civic (10 inchs thick, folded) but its like falling on heaven! makes pebble wrestling worth while! (almost  )

a friend of mine has a TOTA pad and if i was too by a second pad, it would be one of those baby's!

ask the guys at the YMCA in chch for that "garage" industry... i too forget their contact details but rumor has it they produce mad pad size beastys for about 150 bucks... real good value if you ask me! (available in blue AND red!) 8)

well i just got mi first pad and all i can say about it is that it is in fact the shit. i brought a metolius fat bastard. the besterest pad i have ever used. the besterest pad i have ever used. i repeat my self because it is that good.
its fat as, has a heavy duty carpet top, flaps to keep every thing inside and stop you losing your lunch, chalk, shoes and all that other crap that you swear is nessecary. has a little pocket for stuuf you dont want to lose. like phone, tape very comfortable straps and has a waist strap as well.

This pad takes high ball bails like a paracute(as i have a habit of falling from high places. well actually took a 3m fall on to ass first last week at a boulder 20 mins up the road.)

highly recomend forking out that little bit of extra moola for this flash as pad. and remember boulderings all about the style(not the actuall climbing....) and this pad is the pad to own if you met a girl in a bar that has a thing for fat shiny pads!!!!!!

*Bump*

I'm in the market for a mat. I know about the one at catcus climbing for $330 considered expensive and thin. All the other mats I have seen, I haven't a clue where they have been purchased.

DMM - seems British.

IV Bouldering - seems US.

I know your not allowed commerical posts and stuff here, but consider this post permission to spam me with your commerical options.

I believe Oldun makes mats, or did... but the Auckland thing is no good, when you live in the South.
