Before leaving for Nepal with the New Zealand Solu Khumbu Alpine Style Expedition, Ben Dare climbed three new alpine rock routes.

On 12 June, Greig Hamilton and Steve Fortune climbed the unclimbed south face of Mt Sibbald from the Godley Valley. From a campsite at the head of the Godley River North Branch, the pair climbed the 900m buttress to the right of the hanging glacier to the 2633m south peak, before climbing the ridge to the main summit.

Hot Rock: Africa expedition

It seems a long time ago now that a big red truck made it to the quayside in Aqaba, Jordan’s deepwater port, and headed off to Amman to start a big adventure: Hot Rock’s Africa 2010 expedition.

James and a fat man climb The Bells

An email from Whitecaps:

Hey Ian, unfortunately you missed out on an absolute blast of a weekend which left James and I both completely shattered with bruised knuckles and burning calves.

After a belated trip down in the van on Saturday morning we arrived at the mountain as it started to finish snowing lightly. We pack-muled up to the hut before undertaking a steep waterfall ice pitch on the back of the cafe to reacquaint ourselves with screws and climbing cold stuff again. We both felt confident afterwards and upon hearing the first pitch of Chiming Bells on the pinnacles looked a possible goer we resolved to set the alarm for 5:30, rack up our harnesses and pre-pack everything so we could leave asap.

Springtime in the U.K.

Springtime in the U.K.. The daffodils are blooming, the blossom is on the trees, the weather’s warming up. Yeah right! My old climbing mate Martin was getting married in the UK in April so Sarah and I decided to take a month off work and check out the UK climbing scene. For me this meant 2 must visit areas; Llanberis in Nth Wales and the Peak District.
