X Marks The Spot Video

It's bigger than a very very big thing, it's the X Marks The Spot video. Produced by the Tauranga lads, we have some fine footage capturing the days bouldering events at Waiheke Island. X Marks the Spot was a bouldering competition held on Waiheke Island on the 12th Of February. 25 + good keen boulderers set out for an adventure to Stoney Batter, and the far eastern side of island....Sitting in the days sun, the entrants were baked, but that didn't deter them from sending.

Heard of Fantainebleau ? Seen the Real Thing ? Sure you have. Every self-respecting boulderer stuck in the South Pacific dreams of being magically transported to the magic forest for one weekend of fat sloper action. Well, maybe you can't live the dream but now you can watch JP and his mates doing just that. Filmed in 48 manic hours distilled down to just a few minutes and squeezed tight for your web viewing pleasure. Enjoy...

NBS 2005 Cancellation Update

Unfortunately the 2005 NBS has had to be canceled. The overall event organizer who had taken over from Craig's great work in 2004 had done a very good job of making it look like he was organizing everything to the required standard but in reality he had done very little. The discrepancy between what was done and what was needed to be done to ensure a successful event was not discovered by others involved in the NBS until the 11th hour. An unsuccessful attempt was then made to secure the required levels of sponsorship but it proved to be asking for the impossible given the late timing.

Rather than have a poorly organized and sponsored event the hard decision was made to cancel the official 2005 event now to ensure notifications can be made and to shift the focus to planning towards a successful 2006 event.

It is highly likely that smaller scale standalone bouldering events will still take place at Baring Head and Waitomo in 2005 due to local interest. Further details on these will follow

We are sorry for the disruption to your summer bouldering plans, hopefully everyone will still get out there and crank on the great boulders around NZ.

Flock Hill Access

From a message posted in the forums by Phil de Joux :

I phoned the managers of Flock Hill Station to ask for permission to boulder at Flock Hill and was told that there were new lease holders. I managed to track down one of the new owners of the lease, Mark Fraundorfer, to discuss access for climbers. I have arranged with Mark to post this letter from him on a few bouldering web sites.

Click the read more link for the letter. The NZAC is acting on this letter.
